Early steamships were usually driven by multiple powers. You can see many of the SS Great Eastern`s features such as its sails, stacks and paddlewheels. The SS Great Eastern was designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
The SS Great Eastern was 211 meters long and 25 meters wide. It was the largest ship in 1858. Note that there are six masts, five stacks, two side paddlewheels and a propeller at the stern, which was a cutting-edge feature at that time. Also, the SS Great Eastern was the first double hull ship ever.
Although there were so many outstanding design features on the SS Great Eastern, poor management and bad administration were to blame for being auctioned and never fulfill its origin destiny. It was later used in the Atlantic Ocean as a cable-laying ship. It was torn down in 1888.
